I'm going to the Ice!
Yesterday I was awoken by a job offer over the phone for a position as a dining attendant in Antarctica! Not just as an alternate in case someone drops out, like I had been told was all that was left this late into the hiring- a primary position, where I will definitely be going! I'll be at McMurdo Station from the beginning of October through the middle-end of February, and then hopefully I'll be bumming around New Zealand for a bit after that.
Sorry, mom- I guess I can get a little farther from home.

Hey Julia--awesome! congratulations!
have an awesome time in antartica--wow, five winter months there! (a dining attendant? is that like a waitress? ^.^)
my stepfather and one of my good friends both have been there, and they described the experience as otherworldly. i guess it kinda changes you--maybe like wandering in a desert at night by yourself, surrounded by sanddunes and only the universe above to accompany you. except there one really understands the word "freezing." (^_^*) it's crazy, once you've traveled so many places, one begins to realize the final frontiers are the extremes--real cold, real hot, underwater or space. anyway, i'm blathering, sounds like you're having an interesting experience so far, good luck!
~hugs! ~Y~
I am SO DAMN JEALOUS!
